Lead Architect, Edge Computing

Build the edge, not just maintain it

Cloud is moving closer to where data is actually created: factories, cities, vehicles, telecom sites. Our client, one of Europe's largest IT and cloud service providers, is building its edge computing portfolio and is looking for the person who will define how it looks, runs and scales.

This is not a role where you inherit a finished architecture and keep it running. You will shape the platform from the design table to the rack.

What you'll own

• Architecture: You decide how edge clusters are designed, from hardware choice and cabling plans through OS, network, middleware and application layers.
  
• Hands-on delivery: You lead the first installations, test what you designed and make sure it works in production, not just on slides.
  
• Automation: You turn repeatable work into standardized, automated processes, so the team spends time on engineering, not firefighting.
  
• Innovation: You have a real say in the technology roadmap. You scout new technologies, prototype them and propose what the company should adopt next.
  
• Customers: You are the technical face for edge customers, shaping solution concepts with them and turning their requirements into something buildable.
  
• People: You mentor engineers, coordinate technicians and specialists across teams and grow the next generation of edge experts.
  
• Hard problems: You are the escalation point for the most complex (3rd level) issues, and you make sure the service meets its targets.
  

Requirements

Who we'd love to meet

You bring:

• Deep Linux experience (Ubuntu/Debian, SLES or Red Hat) and solid scripting skills
  
• Strong networking foundations: TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, DNS, WAN, VPN
  
• Hands-on experience configuring Linux services and working with KVM virtualization
  
• Understanding of middleware and enough server hardware knowledge to judge a hardware build
  
• 5-7 years in comparable technical responsibility, including technical project leadership
  
• The ability to explain complex architecture clearly to both engineers and customers
  
• English at C1 level
  

Nice to have:

• OpenStack or OpenShift experience
  
• Relevant certifications
  
• German
  
• A university degree (equivalent experience counts just as much)
